Goethite

Goethite was named in honor of German genius Johann written by Wolfgang von Goethe, who also was a passionate collector of minerals. Goethite is formed by the oxidation of other iron minerals. It also occurs in sediments, less often in hydrothermal veins and pegmatites. It is black-brown to red-brown in color. It usually occurs as coatings, further in spherical, kidney-shaped or stalactite-like formations, often with a radiate-needle structure. They often form pseudomorphoses over other minerals, such as pyrite, siderite or hematite. More info
