Silicates
Silicates (silicates) are oxygenated compounds of silicon. These substances are generally insoluble in water, except for the alkali metal silicates Na2SiO3 (water glass, liquid glass) and K2SiO3. Calcium, aluminum and ferric silicates are soluble in acids and are part of the natural mineral raw materials for the building materials industry. All silicates can be dissolved in concentrated alkali hydroxide solutions or at high temperatures in their melts. Silicates as minerals are non-metallic minerals and are usually part of rocks.
