Safflorite

Safflorite is a cobalt arsenide, (Co, Ni, Fe) As2. It was named in 1835 by J.F.A.Breithaupt from the Germanic safflor or zaffer because it was used in the manufacture of zaffer, or impure cobalt oxide used as a pigment. It occurs in long or short columnar crystals or is granular, solid and radially stalked. It is pewter white to dark gray, metallic shiny. It lives on ore veins, but also on metamorphic kyz deposits.
