Diopside

A very nice specimen of a Diopside from Canada, Quebec, Azbestos which was found in the 80's. The Diopside forms a light yellow-green, glassy shiny, druse of crystals that grow into each other and form an almost compact specimen. The largest crystals have a size up to 0,35 cm.

Diopsid

The diopside has the chemical composition CaMg Si2O6. Most often, the crystals have a long or short columnar habitus, twinning or polysynthetic adhesions according to (100) and (001) are common. The aggregates are usually granular, more rarely stalked, sheafish or radially radiate. It is a frequent main mineral of basic and ultrabasic igneous rocks (diopside augit - diorites, charnockites, gabras, pyroxenites, peridotites, kimberlites), it is formed during contact metamorphosis of intrusive and carbonate rocks (contact skarns, erlans, tactites, marbles) and in it we meet some types, especially desilicated pegmatites.
