Kermesite

Kermesite from the classic Slovakian location at Pezinok. A fine array of lustrous radial and fan-like deep maroon red with blood-red reflections Kermesite crystals. Long acicular crystals of Kermesite measuring to 2,7 cm occupy a shallow Calcite crystal-lined cavity on a grey matrix of Stibnite.

Kermesite

The name kermesite comes from the Arabic qurmizq - red. It is formed as a decomposition product during the oxidation of antimony on ore veins. It forms lamellar to acicular crystals, mostly imperfectly developed. Its aggregates are usually radiate, bundled or form coatings and crusts. It is also found in powder coatings on antimony needles. The color is silver, cherry red to purple red.
