Augelite with quartz

The last collections of beautiful Augelites come from Tamborass Mine, Mundo Nuevo, Huamachuco, La Libertad Dept., Peru. Augelite consists of apple green, glassy shiny, translucent, mostly terminated crystals on both sides reaching a size of up to 15 mm, which grow into each other and grow into small, colorless crystals of quartz.

Augelite is an aluminium phosphate mineral with formula: Al2(PO4)(OH)3. The shade varies from colorless to white, yellow or rose. Its crystal system is monoclinic. Augelite was described by Christian Wilhelm Blomstrand for an occurrence in Västanå iron mine at Scania, Sweden in 1868 and derives its name from the Greek αύγή in reference to its pearly lustre.
