Argentite is a silver sulfide, Ag2S, a mineral more or less identical to acanthite. The old Czech name is silver polish. The name comes from the Latin argentum - silver. It occurs on hydrothermal ore veins. It has a metallic appearance, it is black-gray to black. It is usually solid, bushy, but also wire-like. Rarely do they form octahedral or cube-shaped crystals. In the past, it used to be the main silver red.
